For most of 2009 the TILE! support team has been taking part in a development project that will improve some of the usability of the software.  Most of these enhancements will be in the immunity area.  I will save the details for when we get closer to releasing it.  Again we have brought the core of the software up to date so that we can take advantage of more third party plug-ins if we want to. 

This release will most likely be version 4.5.  You will be able to import profiles from v4.0 and 4.1 but you will have some more settings to consider in some of the actions.  If you leave it alone you will most likely get the correct results, but to take advantage of new features you may want to re-configure some of the actions.

We are still using drivers built in C++, not LabView.  However, if we find it advantageous to do that we can.  As most of you know, the driver is mostly a list of commands.  If an action wants a device to do something like change the center frequency, it will make a call for that change along with the value (frequency).  Since TILE! supports so many devices this simple call can be complicated.  To simplify it, TILE! combines action requests with known drivers responses.  So if you want to change the center frequency the action and driver must be able to speak the same language.  LabView drivers only know the command set that the device owners gave it. Therefore, TILE! would still have to have a translator to talk to that driver.  So for now we think we can do what is needed  with the current methodology.  That said, we are still going to improve the process for altering instrument behavior based on customer requests.

Dr. Gemei Yang, our senior software engineer has submitted a paper to the IEEE EMC committee that describes an evolutionary concept for EMC test software that describes where we expect to be in the next iteration of the software.  I will post a link when that paper is published.

Once my software engineers read this they may want to contribute to this post to point out my misunderstandings, so if there are no posts from them then I guess I got it right!

Windows 7 was released on Oct. 22nd.  ETS-Lindgren has had a corporate partner copy for internal testing of enterprise applications but we have not done compatibility checks with TILE! and 7 yet. 

We do know that as of this writing it does not appear to be compatible.  The Windows XP compatibility release candidate was released but there is a warning not to use it yet. 

That said, we will be testing it in the next week and should have a resolution soon.  In the meantime we are suggesting to stay with earlier Windows versions until we can test it.

If you want to see a quick video showing some TILE! features, select "What is TILE!" at the top of the page.  When the new page opens it is in the top right section.

We have released the latest version of TILE!  It is a minor revision number but a major effort! 

For the most part you will not see a big difference but it is a huge step in the code maturity.  Our goal was to get the code to a more supportable level with this revision.  As always, it is available on our FTP site at no charge to those in maintenance.

NOTE:  If you upgrade to this, you must un-install previous versions so back up your profiles and please save your old palette file tile4.dis or from v3, tile.dis and place it back in the tile41 folder after installation.

 NOTE 2:  You must have Service Pack 3 for XP for this to install properly.

For the past year I have been asked by TILE! users about ‘the website’.  Most of you were used to the Quantum Change site that provided a news and update information as well as a link to drivers.

This site will also contain news and update information as well as some blog postings that I am sure will be interesting! 

We tried some different formats since I have been here, but none were as good as this one.  We will improve it by listening to your feedback.

The FAQ’s!

Please refer to the FAQ section when you have questions.  We intend to keep that relevent so you can get answers there as quickly as possible.  In the near term I will be adding information as I quick as I can to add to the knowledge base.

This site should be your focal point for any TILE! issues going forward.  If you cannot find the answers in the FAQ’s or blogs, go ahead and open an issue using the support link.
